super excited to have the lovely and talented Aluna the singer of AlunaGeorge in for a glam session to get her ready for the CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund – check her video out HERE

Aluna is quickly gaining mass appeal with her unique style and sound. Hailing from London Aluna was in the big apple for a few days to work on music and attend CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund event. You could see we had our Union Jack frame behind her since our makeup collection was inspired by the UK from Sara Strand of POP cosmetics.

For Aluna’s look we wanted something classic but still with a bit of edge. First we started on the hair by giving it a spray of ReStyler this helped to protect the hair from the heat of styling tools and keep any frizz at bay, and a good bit of Shaping Hairspray was applied to all the hair. Now the hair was ready to be curled. We went with a deep part to one side. Using a one inch curling iron and starting with the side containing the bulk of hair we started curling the hair starting on top in 1/2 inch sections of hair and working down. Curling each section downward. We pinned each curl to keep its shape and to set as long as possible. Once that side was done we repeated this to the other side and the back of the hair, keeping the direction of the curls going downward. Once all the hair was curled and pinned a liberal dose of Shaping Hairspray was applied to all the pinned curls.  While the hair was setting and since we wanted to give it the longest amount of time possible to set the curls we went onto makeup.

While at the studio we gave her a limited – edition wearable tech bracelet that provides data transfers and battery charging from the ebay Holiday collective – she picked one by Michael Bastian – that says “everything happens for a reason”.

Once the hair had time to set it was given one more spraying of Shaping Hairspray and with the blowdryer each curl was lightly heated. Once each curl was hit by the blowdryer the pins were taken out and with a soft bristled brush was used to all the hair making sure to always brush in the same direction that the curls were rolled in. After a few rounds with the brush there is a visible vintage wave forming. From the side with the bulk of hair it was brushed forward just a few inches and holding that the same hair was than brushed back and again a bit lower forward. This created the S shape that framed Aluna’s face. On the other side the hair was brushed begin the ear. The back was just brushed till it had lovely soft waves. Once the look was done a bit of High Gloss Hairspray was applied to all of the hair. And her look was done

For the makeup we kept it classic and simple. First a bit of moisturizer to give the perfect canvas for Aluna’s makeup.  For Aluna’s eyes we dusted her entire lid with a matte shadow in a natural skin tone. With a small brush we deepened up the lash line of the upper lid with a matte shadow in a deep plum shade. With a slightly larger brush we blend the outer corner of the eye and I to the crease with the tiniest bit of the plum shade. For the liner we used a waterproof liner in black keeping the majority of the liner to the outer rim of the upper lash line an fading inward. A few coats of mascara were applied to the upper and lower lashes. For the brows we just wanted to define her natural shape. Using a dark brown shadow and an angled brush they were lightly deepened.
Since her dress was white we decided to go with a lovely daring red lip and it was a must that Aluna had the perfect red nails. With the amazing dress she was wearing from Alexander Wang the only finishing touch that was needed was a bit of shine to the legs.

For all the hair products we used Salon Grafix, Hot tools were by Babyliss Pro, Skin care by DDF, makeup by POP, Nail Polish by Zoya, and body products by Fake Bake
